Easter & New Beginnings

Spring is here - well at least the calendar says it's spring. Still a bit chilly these days but the Red Sox started playing ball for real at 6am this morning and won their first game of the season! It's a new start in more ways than one.

Over the weekend my family and I went to Rhode Island to visit my Dad and his wife Donna for Easter dinner. Last year my Dad and Donna where visiting us in our new home for Easter dinner but we were hit with a bit of scary news that Easter as my Dad had just been diagnosed with cancer in his neck. That Easter he was looking for a Dr. and treatment

It was a long journey and certainly parts of it where difficult however I'm happy to say he is cancer free today. His battle did leave some complications with eating. Something that most of us take for granted every day. We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal that they prepared yesterday. Dad actually ate everything on his plate!!! It was funny watching him slam down his fork and declare "I did it!!" It was the first time since last spring he has been able to eat something other than soup or something out of a feeding tube.

I couldn't be more proud of him & Donna for their courage to battle through this difficult challenge in their lives. Here is a few photos I took of him after dinner before we headed back home.

New Shoes and a Ladybug!

A few weeks ago I bought some new running shoes. I haven't been exactly logging a lot of miles lately (I've been a little sick lately) so what better way to get motivated than to get some new running shoes. I know women usually get excited about new shoes but runners also have this strange obsession with them as well - after all without our feet we wouldn't get very far right??

So I trekked down to see my friend Kevin and Hanlon's Shoes in Hyannis and picked up some new Brooks Adrenaline's.

While I got ready for my long 2 mile run...lol... Melanie was working on her book report and Kylie was playing quietly in the Family room. After my run I can home to find a Ladybug in the house - I feel lucky already! A pain free run and home in time for dinner with my family. Have a great Easter everyone.

UCFN Family Fund-raiser

Now through April 3rd you will receive a complimentary portrait session & a gift portrait with a $50 donation to the Upper Cape Family Network. (a $130 value!) Call me for more details or to schedule your session.
Remember - Mother's Day and Father's Day will soon be here. What a better gift than a portrait with your children.

The Upper Cape Family Network (UCFN) is one of 42 Family Networks state-wide. It is a program for all families in Falmouth, Sandwich, Mashpee, and Bourne who have children ages zero (prenatal and preadoptive) through 48 months. All activities are free and include playgroups and parenting classes, child development information and VNA home visits, library programming and family activities, as well as local and community resources and referrals.

The Upper Cape Family Network (UCFN) believes that all parents, regardless of education or income level, race, creed, or family composition, are most effective when they feel supported in the vital, but often challenging, job of raising a family. By providing family recreational activities and playgroups, they hope to help parents build connections with other parents that will extend outside the Family Network. By providing information, resources, and parent support/education groups, they hope to help parents enhance their child-rearing skills.
