Another Beantown Championship!

Melanie got to witness yet another Boston team winning a championship. Her 6th in her lifetime. Yesterday we had an appointment in Boston so we decided hey while we are here - let's go to a parade.

I got t-shirts for the girls and we watched as the players and coaches celebrated the 17th NBA championship for the Celtics.

School Event Season - Done!

Whew! What a spring! Our school/sports division finishes today with a small graduation in Marblehead. During the last 8 weeks my team photographed 5 sports leagues, 10 proms, 1 preschool, and 12 graduations from Manchester, CT to right here on Cape Cod.

The difference this year is that I tried to do my own weddings and portraits while my photographers handled the other assignments. My good friend Chris Odom seen in the background laughing at me came up from Florida to help run some of the teams in the field. Chris wanted out of the Miami sun for a few days - who was I to say no. Thanks Chris!

40! Oh-Boy!

So with an off weekend for a change I was looking forward to getting some much needed rest and sleep. It was my birthday this past weekend and I was turning 40 but was not expecting any big celebrations just some quiet time with Kelli, the kids and my parents.

So on Saturday we had plans to go to lunch with my parents after I had a meeting at the studio. When I showed up at BBC my parents were sitting in the bar area - I was thinking that was a bit odd - why were they not at a table? Then I saw my buddy and old roommate from UCF Kenny then Jay and then big Dave (another old roommate who now lives in VT). I stopped cold in my tracks and said "hey what is going on here?" My friend Jay asked if I bought "my backup liver - you're going to need it" So much for the relaxing weekend with family.

Seems Kelli had been planning something behind my back. When I got back to my house that afternoon there where more surprises including a surprise party with more family and friends including many photographers from here on the cape and beyond. Needless to say I was a bit overwhelmed and embarrassed by all of this but it was a lot of fun.

Mother's Day

On Sunday we hopped back on the boat and headed back to the "main land." Kylie had a ballet performance at CCCC that Kelli and I were anxious to get back for. It was a great show - Peter Pan - one of my favorites! When I get a chance I'll try to post a slide show of some other images from this show but here are a few of Kylie. Who of course was the star of the show - well at least for us :-).

Prom Time on the Vineyard

As many of you know prom season is upon us. My business does several of these this time of year mostly on the cape and few here and there. Last week I got a call from my friend Joe Mikos (a fabulous wedding photographer) on the Vineyard. Apparently Martha's Vineyard HS was in need of a photographer for their prom that weekend. Fortunately I still had some availability in our crazy schedule to add them.

So I convinced Kelli to hop on the boat with me and away we went. The prom was held at the Beach Plum Inn on the island. With a fantastic view of sunset about 100 couples danced the night away with one of my favorite bands - the Sultans of Swing. Some of the band came over and had their pictures taken as well.

Go for it Jenny!

Jenny Barringer will be going to the Olympic Trials the end of next month in Oregon. Jenny was coached in middle school by my best friend and former teammate Ken Rohr in Florida before going on to become one of the best high school runners in the state of Florida under my other teammate & friend from UCF, Jay Getty.

Jenny was one who inspired me to get back into running after a long lay off when I saw her run in the Reebok indoor games in 05 when she was a HS senior.

She continues with great success in her collegiate career at the University of Colorado winning the NCAA steeplechase as a freshman. Below is a video of her career as a Buffalo.

Good Luck Jenny!

Go Jenny!!

Help Needed

Do you like having fun while you work? Do you like children? Are you available on weekends and evenings? Karen and I are in search of a few good men or women to add to our event photography staff. If you like to have fun and work with people then you may be the candidate we are looking for.

We have a few openings for a event photographer as well as event assistants. These are part time positions through June 21st then again in the fall (September/October). For more info go to www.northernimagesphoto.com/jobs.htm

Networking Event

Couple of weeks ago Kelli and I got to check out the cool new digs for Southern New England Weddings in Bristol, RI. It was great catching up with some other wedding vendors before the start of our busy season.
While we were there we caught up with Karen Rood of Wychmere Harbor. They just finished with several renovations there. I'm excited to see their new facility when we travel there for a wedding later this summer.
Before we left we grabbed a few bags of cake truffles from Lisa of Delicious Desserts......yummy!

Week at NEIPP

Whew, what a week at school. It was a great week to get the juices flowing again. Unfortunately I ended up with the flu for a good portion of it. Before I left for school I took a few photos at the beach with our guest speaker, Thomas Balsamo from Chicago. Here are a few of those images.

Off to school!

Hey everyone - Amy and I will be off to NEIPP next week to get inspired, re energized and ready for this coming busy year. We will be in class starting Sunday night then from 8:30 am - 9 pm every day for a week!

We will be studying with some of the best photographers in the world! For Amy, who has been with me now over 5 years, this will be her second time attending this prestigious school. She will be studying with Kevin Kubota (I was in his class last year) a fabulous wedding photographer from Bend, Oregon. I will be with Senior photographer guru John Hartman. It will be my sixth year in a row participating in this intense and rewarding experience. I can't wait!

School this year will be at Ocean Edge. Doesn't sound like we are going far but in our minds we will be miles away.

Before our school kicks off our local group of photographers (PPOCC) here on the Cape will get together on Saturday to learn from Thomas Balsamo. Thomas' work with Autistic children was recently featured on CNN just yesterday. Kelli and I will be his host family on Saturday night and look forward to catching up with him while he is here.

Karen will be attending Thomas' program on Saturday and will be by the studio by appointment only. With Amy and I both gone we are closing the studio till the 14th. If you need to pick up or order anything please send me an email and I will let Karen know.

Easter & New Beginnings

Spring is here - well at least the calendar says it's spring. Still a bit chilly these days but the Red Sox started playing ball for real at 6am this morning and won their first game of the season! It's a new start in more ways than one.

Over the weekend my family and I went to Rhode Island to visit my Dad and his wife Donna for Easter dinner. Last year my Dad and Donna where visiting us in our new home for Easter dinner but we were hit with a bit of scary news that Easter as my Dad had just been diagnosed with cancer in his neck. That Easter he was looking for a Dr. and treatment

It was a long journey and certainly parts of it where difficult however I'm happy to say he is cancer free today. His battle did leave some complications with eating. Something that most of us take for granted every day. We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal that they prepared yesterday. Dad actually ate everything on his plate!!! It was funny watching him slam down his fork and declare "I did it!!" It was the first time since last spring he has been able to eat something other than soup or something out of a feeding tube.

I couldn't be more proud of him & Donna for their courage to battle through this difficult challenge in their lives. Here is a few photos I took of him after dinner before we headed back home.

New Shoes and a Ladybug!

A few weeks ago I bought some new running shoes. I haven't been exactly logging a lot of miles lately (I've been a little sick lately) so what better way to get motivated than to get some new running shoes. I know women usually get excited about new shoes but runners also have this strange obsession with them as well - after all without our feet we wouldn't get very far right??

So I trekked down to see my friend Kevin and Hanlon's Shoes in Hyannis and picked up some new Brooks Adrenaline's.

While I got ready for my long 2 mile run...lol... Melanie was working on her book report and Kylie was playing quietly in the Family room. After my run I can home to find a Ladybug in the house - I feel lucky already! A pain free run and home in time for dinner with my family. Have a great Easter everyone.
